"Mille Jours" Canada back to French

Like their debut, Canada is back to a French language song again. Marie-Mai will sing her beautiful ballad "Mille jours" in Moscow

Brian Melo - Shine

TSGP-17 took place in the city of Monaco. Brian Melo was the Canadian singer with his song 'Shine'. The former Idol had to qualify through a semifinal which he did. In the final he captured a nice 6th place (out of 24) with 73 points. He qualified from the final as one of the 14 qualifiers with 85 points (5th/23)

Brian Melo - Shine

Every corner you turn
Walls are closing in
All the lights have changed from green to red
You're grounded by the weather
Nowhere to take flight
Somehow your wings got broken
Your hands are tied

But can't you feel it in the air
The moment has arrived
So why don't you

[Chorus]
Shine, cause I've been waiting for you to try
Set your sights high
And elevate yourself to the sky
Just rise and shine

Your shadow is behind you
When the sun's in your face
Your story isn't finished
Just turn the page
It's time to wake up
It's time to shake it up
The chains can be cut and thrown away

And can't you see it everywhere
The moment is alive
So why don't you

[Chorus]
Shine, cause I've been waiting for you to try
Set your sights high
And elevate yourself to the sky
Just rise and shine

Anticipating
I've been waiting
The moment has arrived
For you to
Shine
Just shine

[Chorus]
Shine, cause I've been waiting for you to try
Set your sights high
And elevate yourself to the sky
Just rise and shine [x2]

Chantal Chamandy half in spanish

After the successes of the two rockbands from Canada now Canadian (but Egyptian born) singer Chantal Chamandy entered with a heartbreaking ballad which was half in Spanish. In Santorini she reached only 22nd out of 27, with 39 points. Actually this was Canada's worst ranking ever. But fans loved the song a lot.

Chantal Chamandy - Feels like love

how much do we need
to see how lucky we are
how long do you think it will last
forever could be the start

open your eyes, don't let us slip away
touch every moment and feel

does it feel like love, love, love
'cause when it feels like love, love, love
every kiss will make you high
making love will make you cry
when it feels like love

(when it feels like love)

every moment seems like the first
a passion I never knew
tu labios secos siente ser de amarte
dejamé que sea que me enamore
oh! mirame y hablame siente me
quiro acariaciarte

yo siento amor tu amor el amo
sentimientos de amor amor – solo amor
tus besos me deliran y haciendo
el amor me haces llorar

love lets you fly
makes your soul alive
love takes your breath away
grows stronger everyday

love is more than words
so come and hold me, show me the meaning
make me feel... love, amor, love te quiero te amo
'cause it feels like love

'cause when it feels like love, love, love
every kiss will make you high
making love will make you cry
when it feels like love

when it feels like, te amo te quiero, oh ya it'll
feels like love, when it feels like love, te quiero amor
tus besos, tus besos, tus besos me deliran
oh te quiero, oh siento amor ay amor
oh feels like love, love, I love you

every kiss will make you high
making love will make you cry
when it feels like love
feels like love, love, love

2nd RunnerUp by Simple Plan

TSGP-15 was hosted by Amsterdam and Simple Plan was the next Canadian band to hit high. Their song "Your love is a lie" became runner-up (out of 24) with 78 points.

Simple Plan - Your love is a lie

I fall asleep by the telephone
It's 2 O'clock and I'm waiting up alone
Tell me where have you been?
I found a note with another name
You blow a kiss, but it just don't feel the same
Cause I can feel that you're gone

I can't bite my tongue forever
While you try to play it cool
You can hide behind your stories
But don't take me for a fool

You can tell me that there's nobody else
(But I feel it)
You can tell me that you're home by yourself
(But I see it)
You can look into my eyes and pretend all you want
But I know
Your love is just a lie
(Lie)
It's nothing but a lie
(Lie)

You look so innocent
But the guilt in your voice gives you away
Yeah you know what I mean
How does it feel when you kiss when you know that i trust you
And do you think about me when he fucks you?
Could you be more obscene?

So dont try to say you're sorry
Or try to make it right
Don't waste your breath because it's too late, it's too late.

You can tell me that there's nobody else
(But I feel it)
You can tell me that you're home by yourself
(But I see it)
You can look into my eyes and pretend all you want
But I know, I know,
Your love is just a lie
(Lie)
It's nothing but a lie
(Lie)
You're nothing but a lie

You can tell me that there's nobody else
(But I feel it)
You can tell me that you're home by yourself
(But I see it)
You can look into my eyes and pretend all you want
But I know, I know
Your love is just a lie
(Lie
I know you're nothing but a lie
(Lie)
Lie
(Lie)
Lie
(Lie)
Lie

Your love is just a lie

Lights - Drive my soul

Toronto singer Lights was the Canadian entry for TSGP-14 in Hong-Kong. She sang her beautiful sweet "Drive my soul", but ranked 15th (out of 24) with 43 points.

Lights - Drive my soul

Seems somebody put out the moon
Now the road is a minefield
I can’t follow the way she moves
I can’t see past the shadows
You make the darkness disappear
I feel found when you stay near
I know where I am when you are here
My way becomes so clear

When you're gone
Will I lose control?
You're the only road I know
You show me where to go
Who will drive my soul?

Seems somebody burned up the signs
I can’t expect the hard curves
There's no borders
There are no lines
How can I know where to turn?
You make the street lights reappear
I feel bright when you stand near
I know what I am when you are here
My place becomes so clear

When you're gone
Will I lose control?
You’re the only road I know
You show me where to go
Who will drive my soul?

Will I lose control?
You’re the only road I know
You show me where to go
Who will drive my soul?
Drive my soul

When you’re gone
Will I lose control?
You’re the only road I know
You show me where to go
When you’re gone
Will I lose control?
You’re the only road I know
You show me where to go
Who will drive my soul?

Tongued tied at 2nd Spot

Los Angelas was the next host of TSGP-13. Faber Drive for Canada took the 3rd top3 spot in one year. Their rocksong 'tongue tied' made it to the 2nd (out of 25) spot, having received 122 points only 8 points behind China. A new Canadian record.

Faber Drive - Tongue Tied

Bright cold silver moon
Tonight alone in my room
You were here just yesterday
Slight turn of the head
Eyes down when you said
I guess I need my life to change
Seems like something's just aren't the same
What could I say?

I need a little more luck than a little bit
Cuz every time I get stuck the words won't fit
And every time that I try I get tongue tied
I'll need a little good luck to get me by

I need a little more help than a little bit
Like the perfect one word no one's heard yet
Cuz every time that I try I get tongue tied
I need a little good luck to get me by this time

I stare up at the stars
I wonder just where you are
You feel a million miles away
(I wonder just where you are)
Was it something I said?
Or something I never did?
Or was I always in the way?
(Was it something I did?)
Could someone tell me what to say to just make you stay?

I need a little more luck than a little bit
Cuz every time I get stuck the words won't fit
And every time that I try I get tongue tied
I need a little good luck to get me by

I need a little more help than a little bit
Like the perfect one word no one's heard yet
Cuz every time that I try I get tongue tied
I need a little good luck to get me by this time

I know it feels like the end
Don't want to be here again
And we could help each other off the ground so we never fall down again
What it takes I don't care
We're gonna make it I swear
And we could help each other off the ground so we never fall down again
Again

I need a little more luck than a little bit
Cuz every time I get stuck the words won't fit
But every time that I try I get tongue tied
I need a little good luck to get me by

I need a little more help than a little bit
Like the perfect one word no one's heard yet
Cuz every time that I try I get tongue tied
I need a little good luck to get me by this time

I know it feels like the end
Don't want to be here again
And we could help each other off the ground so we never fall down again
What it takes I don't care
We're gonna make it I swear
And we could help each other off the ground so we never fall down again

Dance Diva Deborah Cox does Aïda

Tokyo was the set of TSGP-12. Dance Diva Deborah Cox was about to sing for Canada with her strong voice a dance version of the song "Easy as life" from Aïda. It brought her cheers from the crowd of enthusiasm and to an equal 15th place (out of 22) with 41 points.

Deborah Cox - Easy as life

No, no, no, no
Nothing is easy

All I have to do
Is forget how much I love him
All I have to do
Is put my longing to one side
Tell myself that love’s an ever changing situation
Passion would have cooled, and all the magic would have died
It’s easy as life

I try to forget how much I want him here
let my tears slowly disappear
I cannot forget that my emotions die
Oh I don’t even want to try
Nothing in life is ever easy
Nothing in love will ever run true
My heart will never stop believing
I still believe in what love can do

All I have to do
Is pretend I never knew you
On those very rare occasions
When you steal into my heart
Better to have lost you
When the ties were barely binding
Better the contempt
Of the familiar cannot stop
It’s easy as life

I try to forget how much I want him here
Then my dreams slowly disappear
I cannot forget that my emotions die
Oh I don’t even want to try
Nothing in life is ever easy
Nothing in love will ever run true
My heart will never stop believing
I still believe in what love can do

It hurts to think about you
When I want to touch you
And how we would have been
If you were here with me today
Those very rare occasions
They keep on coming
All I ever wanted
I’m throwing it away

(x’s 2)
Nothing in life is ever easy
Nothing in love will ever run true
My heart will never stop believing
I still believe in what love can do

Loreena McKennitt - Penelope's song

Next up in TSGP-11 was Loreena McKennnitt. She gave a stunning preformance (as ever) in Vancouver of her ballad "Penelope's song". Again top 10 for with 58 points Loreena ranked 8th out of 20.

Loreena McKennitt - Penelope's song
(Music and lyric: Loreena McKennitt)

Now that the time has come
Soon gone is the day
There upon some distant shore
You'll hear me say

Long as the day in the summer time
Deep as the wine dark sea
I'll keep your heart with mine.
Till you come to me.

There like a bird I'd fly
High through the air
Reaching for the sun's full rays
Only to find you there

And in the night when our dreams are still
Or when the wind flows free
I'll keep your heart with mine
Till you come to me

Now that the time has come
Soon gone is the day
There upon some distant shore
You'll hear me say

Long as the day in the summer time
Deep as the wine dark sea
I'll keep your heart with mine.
Till you come to me

Sarah McLachlan takes 1st victory

TSGP-10 took place in Drammen - Norway. It was a special edition in which classics competed against each other. Canada entered the singer Sarah McLachlan with her beautiful ballad "Angel" and won! The 4th entry by Canada ever was a winner with 120 points. First place out of 20.

Sarah McLachlan - Angel

Spend all your time waiting
For that second chance
For a break that would make it okay
There?s always one reason
To feel not good enough
And it?s hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
Oh beautiful release
Memory seeps from my veins
Let me be empty
And weightless and maybe
I?ll find some peace tonight

In the arms of an angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You?re in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort there

So tired of the straight line
And everywhere you turn
There?s vultures and thieves at your back
And the storm keeps on twisting
You keep on building the lie
That you make up for all that you lack
It don?t make no difference
Escaping one last time
It?s easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
This glorious sadness that brings me to my knees

In the arms of an angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You?re in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort there
You?re in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here

Michelle Wright - Everything and more

Michelle Wright was the third entry of Canada. TSGP-9 took place in London where the song "Everything and more" bye Michelle gathered 37 points which took her to 14th place(out of 22)

Michelle Wright - Everything And More
(Michelle Wright/Patricia Conroy/Gerald O'Brien)

Stumble out of bed late for work
My car won't start and my head's a blur
Wonderin' what am I doing this for
God there's got to be something more

Cause I've got IOUs
And they've got SUVs
And I can't help wonderin'
Is there something missin' for me

That's when I stop
To my knees I drop
Take a real good look at what I got

CHORUS:
Faith that gets me through
I've got it
Dreams that could come true
Got that too
All the things in life worth living for
I've got everything
Everything and more

Friday night another week is gone
Just me and my cat and the TV's on
It's the Real World or Will & Grace
Looks like everyone's strugglin' to find their place

Then I call my mother (hello mother, how are you)
Tell her I'm all right
Pull back the covers
And just before I turn out the light

That's when I stop
To my knees I drop
Take a real good look at what I got

CHORUS

Searching for what really matters
Only makes me realize
I've got everything

CHORUS

Everything and more
Everything and more

Top 3 for RyanDan - The face

In TSGP 8 RyanDan an identical twin performed for Canada in Dublin their song 'The Face' which resulted in a 3rd place (out of 21) with 89 points total

RyanDan - The Face

Traveller of the great divides
Vagrant on a path to life

Everyday feels a little closer
To where it is that you're headed for
Given to a hope of so much more

For every time you fall apart
There'll be a soul to guide your journey
But if you choose to turn away
There in the mirror
You'll see my face
You'll see my face

Think you're on this road alone
Looking for a truth untold

Many times you've been close to breaking
Giving up and letting go
Something inside says it's not over

For every time you fall apart
There'll be a soul to guide your journey
But if you choose to turn away
There in the mirror
You'll see my face

And when the world crowds your space
Remember days when noise was silent
Now empty vows, loveless displays
Just a sense of knowing
You'd see my face
You'd see my face

Natasha St.Pier - Canada debuts

Canada made her debut on Top Star Grand Prix in the 7th edition. Quebec singer Natasha St.Pier entered TSGP-7 with the song "Plus simple que ça". She gained 42, ranking 13th out of 23.

Natasha St.Pier - Plus simple que ça

A quoi ça sert de s'attacher
Puisque la ligne peut couper
A tout moment
On manque à jamais d'unité
Pour se le dire et se parler
On manque de temps

On s'imagine depuis l'enfance

Alors on glisse à l'intérieur
Du mot futur

On s'imagine depuis l'enfance
